Funerals are a way to honor those who have passed. Some people take great care to explain their wishes beforehand so that loved ones know what they want. However, funerals are not cheap or free. Instead, everything from the notice in the local newspaper to the flowers and the venue itself will cost money. This isn’t something that all families have to spare. This is why a funeral plan is important. Such coverage ensures that all funerals related expenses are covered so that loved ones who are grieving do not have added stress in their lives.

A funeral is a big event. Not only does it involve people coming together to celebrate the life of the deceased but it also involves taking care of the remains. Thus, one has to pay for the body to be treated and for a casket or has to deal with cremation, too. These are major expenses that a funeral plan can pay for so that loved ones can focus on what’s important: their loved ones. Having a financial safety net in place is important because it plans for this day, means that people do not waste their time taking out loans for a service or maxing out credit cards, and that the day is as perfect as possible.

Be smart and invest in funeral plans. This decision will help a person plan and pay for a funeral so that loved ones can honor the deceased. Having the right funeral plan means that loved ones never have to settle when it comes to such preparations. Instead, everything can be as the deceased and his or her loved ones wanted it. This is invaluable.

You can surf the internet and find out lots more on funeral plans and how will it benefit you. There is however various service providers out there that offer funeral plans. This is an advantage for you because of the numerous service providers out there, the competition is really high and the prices are going to vary. This will ensure that you find a plan that suits your needs and you pocket.

With the increasing number of deaths worldwide, graveyards are fast becoming full to capacity. New graveyards are being constructed – but we should ask ourselves – do we really want to live in a world filled with graveyards at every corner?

The solution to the problem is simple – cremation. Apart from it being a space saving alternative, it is also a cost saving one. You do not have to purchase a grave plot, tombstone, nor do you have to worry about the maintenance of the plot. Once the body is cremated you can disperse the ashes if you wish or you could store them in an urn.

When you bury a loved one, you often find the need to visit the grave site to feel closer to them – this becomes increasingly difficult when you emigrate to another country, as the grave cannot be taken with you. The only time you will get to visit the grave, would be to travel to the country in which the grave is, which can be costly and may not be nearly as often as we would like to. If you were to cremate and store the ashes in an urn – you may take the urn with ashes with you wherever you choose to go. You could even put the ash in a vile attached to chains which you and your loved ones can wear always.

The thought of maggots eating away at the decomposing body of your loved one can be pretty disturbing and this can be easily avoided by opting to have your loved one cremated.

It is often becoming common practice to plan for your own funeral whilst still alive. People take out funeral plans to ensure that their family will be able to bear the financial strain of a funeral. Different people look for different benefits in funeral cover and different plans will be suited to different individuals. You could go a step further to come up with the best funeral plan – by pre-planning and stating whether you want to be buried or cremated. Where you want to be buried or cremated and where you would like for the memorial service to be held. Whether you would like your funeral to be opened or if you would like it to be a closed ceremony with only select persons present.

When a loved one dies, there are many decisions that grieving family members and friends are confronted with concerning the funeral. One of these decisions involves answering the question, what kind of funeral do you want?Every person and every family is different and decisions regarding funeral are influenced by cultural and religious traditions, personal preference and cost. Options include the Traditional or Full-service Funeral, Direct Burial or Direct Cremation.

A growing number of people are selecting the option of Cremation. It is becoming more popular as a method for the final disposition of the body for reasons such as some do not like the idea of a traditional burial, it simplifies the burial process, is more environmentally friendly and is more economical.

Cremation is a process by which a body is exposed to extreme heat, usually 1800 – 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, for two hours or more. This process results in the body being reduced to its basic elements which are then referred to as “the cremated body” or “created remains”. This occurs at a crematorium in a special kind of furnace called a cremation chamber or cremation retort. The crematorium may be part of a chapel or a funeral home or part of an independent facility or a service offered by a cemetery.

After this process of heat and flame, bone fragments remain. They are then mechanically processed to form a uniform power-like texture. After this preparation the cremated remains can be placed in a temporary container that is suitable for transport. Cremation may serve as a funeral or post-funeral rite that is an alternative to the interment of an intact body in a casket. Cremated remains, which are not a health risk, may be buried or immured in memorial sites or cemeteries, or they may be legally retained by relatives or dispersed in a variety of ways and locations.

There is a growing trend towards cremation and the keeping of cremated remains in the home in a memorial urn. These urns are available in colorful ceramics, exotic woods and fine metals. Cremation Jewelry is also a growing area such as “The Eternity Heart” that encases a small amount of cremated remains in a piece of fine jewelry. These items can serve as memorials as well as heirlooms that may be passed on through the generations.

As a funeral director I’m often asked by the public, “do I need burial insurance?” My stock reply is the usual, “that depends.” I’m not trying to be insensitive or cute with my answer, but the truth is that it does depend on several factors in my opinion, but two most importantly.

I believe two of the most important factors are to consider who will make your final plans first, then how will those plans be funded? Simple questions yes, but among those most of us fail to ask ourselves or give serious thought to.

Choosing a person to handle your final arrangements can be done in reality by doing nothing at all. At your death in most states, lineage will decide who will have right of disposition. If no legal descendants are available to handle this duty most counties, townships and/or states will step in and have the final disposition done. This will usually be a direct burial or cremation as determined by the government body handling it. I recommend avoiding this possibility by selecting a family member or friend to entrust with this duty and to make sure they have the legal documents necessary to abide by your wishes. Also, be sure your chosen administrators will have access to final expense funds. Many problems can be avoided by making sure of this one thing. Tip: Burial insurance will in most cases let you designate the beneficiary. This allows you to make sure specific funeral and burial expense funds are in control of your designee.

Secondly, give thought to the funding aspect of your final arrangements. Are you satisfied with your current funding (insurance, savings, etc.) to be sufficient and available when that time comes? Is it possible your current insurance might be needed to settle other expenses such as medical bills, estate taxes, etc.? Are you comfortable that your current insurance or savings will keep pace with funeral inflation costs? If you answered no to any of these questions, then you may want to consider additional insurance specifically for your final expenses. Tip: Burial insurance policies can be issued in small amounts to subsidize your existing insurance or larger amounts to cover total funeral and burial costs. In many cases it is also easier to qualify for in older age groups.

Does everyone need burial insurance? Certainly not, but as a funeral director I can tell you that many families I’ve assisted were able to honor a loved one’s wishes only because that person had a burial insurance policy in force at the time of their death.

Take a few minutes and give this some thought. The attention and consideration you give these matters now will make a tremendous difference for those who eventually will do your final planning.

Cremation services have become more popular today because of the economics of it. A cremation service can run anywhere from half to ¾ the cost of a regular funeral, which includes the casket, burial, services and any additional things that are needed.

People consider the economics of it, but some also prefer to be cremated for either religious reasons or for personal reasons. What some must understand about cremation services is that it not only saves money, but it also saves time and is environmentally friendly in regards to the ashes.

Some will consider the path of cremation to fulfill wishes that are conducive to them, but whatever the case may be, money and space are being saved. However, one thing people must understand is that not all funeral homes have cremation services, but the majority of them will.

As far as services are concerned, one will need to check with the funeral home to see what kinds of services they provide outside of cremation. After cremation is complete the ashes are set in an urn. After the urn is filled the owners or descendants will have options on what to do with the remains after the service if there is one.

Depending on what kind of urn you desire will determine the price. At times, the funeral homes will have customized urns or pre designed ones, but one will look at urns from anywhere from $20 up to $1000, sometimes more. Of course the choice is for the individuals themselves and no one else.

These are a list of issues about cremation and cremation services that you might desire to talk about with your funeral director. Your funeral professional can offer the answers to these questions, in addition to any others you may have.* Crematoria in your area. Once you have decided on cremation as your choice and have decided whether or not you wish to have a funeral or memorial service, you will need to decide on a cremation service provider. If you are working with a funeral home in planning the services, they will be able to recommend a crematorium with whom they regularly work. However, if you are going the route of a direct cremation without a funeral service or visitation beforehand, the task of choosing a crematorium will most likely fall to you.

* Where the cremation will take place. Whether you deal with a funeral home or not, the cremation process will take place at the crematorium. Funeral homes have certain crematoriums that they use but if you are not using a funeral home then you will locate one on your own.

* Viewing or visitation. An ever increasing number of families are requesting cremation services. Cremation services options are:

Full service cremation includes visitation with public viewing and funeral service held at the funeral home or at a place of worship. This service usually also includes a private family viewing arranged at your convenience. These arrangements require embalming by company policy and, in most cases, by state law. At the end of the service or ceremony, family and friends are dismissed and the decedent is taken to the crematory for cremation.

Full service cremation with a public viewing or visitation the same day as the service. The service may be scheduled either daytime or evening.

Public viewing followed by cremation and then a graveside committal service.

Public viewing followed by cremation but without a committal service, with cremated remains returned to the family.

* Costs associated with cremation Cremations are typically much less expensive than ground burials for many reasons. For example, in many cases a cremation is not preceded by a funeral. If a funeral is held before the cremation, very often the casket is rented for the duration of the funeral instead of purchased. Similarly, remains that are to be cremated are often not embalmed for a wake or visitation.

* Caskets choices. If a funeral is planned, you have choices as to what kind of casket you use. Most casket makers have specially made caskets for cremation which allow both the coffin and the remains to be burned at once. Very often, a casket can also be rented at the funeral home to be used for any planned services.

As a rule, the top thing for you to do for you and your family is to pre-plan. Advanced preparation will ease a lot of the trouble when the time of death truly comes. Nevertheless, I know that logically, this can’t always take place. Death is not always expected, in any case.
