When someone near and dear to you passes away, the pain and heartache is more than enough to deal with already, without having the added stress of financial burdens that will arise at the time. Funeral costs can leave you or your dependents in debt. With the costs of living rising on a daily basis so is the cost of dying and choosing the best funeral package for you and your family’s needs can be both time consuming and daunting. In this article I am going to run through the different variations that are common in the market and more or less what these packages would entail.
These can be broken down in to two major categories. You can opt for a plan that will cover just your funeral requirements or a cover that will also be able to take care of your funeral needs and the needs of your family after you have passed on also known as a funeral plan and a survival plan all in one premium.
This can be further broken down in to three more categories.
- A basic essential plan
- A middle classed funeral plan
- An executive package
The difference between each package here would be the price tag and benefits offered. For example with a basic essential plan you might only be offered coverage for yourself only with minimal additional benefits at a lower monthly premium. Additional benefits would differ between insurance providers. A “middle classed” funeral cover would generally offer a lump sum pay out to a beneficiary of your choice and additional benefits such as maybe a monthly dividend payout to help assist your remaining dependents financially for up to a year after the death of the insured, here again benefits would differ between insurance providers. And finally an “executive” package may boast additional benefits such as no claims bonuses, double payouts for accidental death, legal assistance with rounding up the estate of the deceased and many more. Once again this would depend on the insurance home you decide to deal with.
So you see there is a lot more to funeral policies than just assisting financially with payments at the time of death, and choosing a package with a price tag and benefits to suit your needs can be harder than it seems. Take this time to make the effort and secure yourself and family should you be faced. Ensure that you give your family the strength to give you a dignified funeral service.
